Why We Love Our Travel Teams.

Here in Ill-a-delphia, we're sports-lovin' folk. Though many of us hail from around the country (and indeed, other countries here at PRG) we're all drawn together by our passion for sports, and specifically women's flat track roller derby.

Philly Roller Girls boasts three amazing home teams--the Broad Street Butchers, the Heavy Metal Hookers, and the Philthy Britches. But what stokes the fires for these teams, and what makes them evolve as better skaters season after season, is our travel teams--the Independence Dolls, and the Liberty Belles.

Many of you who follow WFTDA leagues and standings know the Belles, who took 4th place this past November at the National Championships in Chicago, IL,  hosted by the excellent skaters at Windy City. The Belles are constantly striving to learn new skills by picking challenging match-ups and seeking out the uncharted territory in roller derby strategy. You can check them out next weekend at Wild West Showdown and see this artfully put into play.

By honing these skills on a high-level national landscape, the Belles have produced a trickle-down effect within the league. These hard-working skaters have taken their knowledge and put it into play with the home teams. This means better and better derby for our home team fans here in Philly.

Just as promising is the development and growth within our second travel team, the Independence Dolls. In many ways, the Dolls can be considered a "B" or farm system team for the Belles. But these skaters have done amazing things in their own right. Last weekend, the Dolls trucked on down to Baltimore to take on Charm City's B'More Bananas. The Dolls beat the Bananas 201-127, showing some of that cultivated Philly skill and representing Philly Roller Girls in style.

Local fans will have plenty of opportunities to check out both the Dolls and the Belles this season, as all of our fast-paced bouts are double-headers featuring teams of all skill-sets from around the country. And if that sounds amazing, just wait until we roll out info about the 5th Annual East Coast Derby Extravaganza, coming in June.

Check our site frequently for our schedule of bouts this year. Don't miss a hit from our home and travel teams!
