Here at Philly Roller Girls, our bout production committee works pretty durn hard to put together some challenging bouts that'll entertain our local fans. At our 2011 season opener of February 12th, we invited our sisters to the west, Pittsburgh's Steel City Hurtin' to take on our all-stars, the Liberty Belles. The Hurtin' put up quite a fight, particularly in the second period. P-Burgh jammers 'Snot Rocket Science and Hurricane Heather threw down against the Belles, but ultimately, the black and blue ousted the black and yellow: PRG 138, Steel Hurtin', 60.
For the second half of our hot-tempered double header, 2010 Champs the Broad Street Butchers took on their Warrior Cup rivals, the Philthy Britches. Those Philthy Britches claimed dominance from nearly the first whistle, and kept up an impressive offensive throughout. With a host of new faces on each squad--and colorful new Britches tailcoats, straight outta Fashion Week--the Britches ultimately bested the Butchers, 96-35.
But the real winners of the night, as always, was the league itself. Philly Roller Girls is always humbled by the excitement and passion of our fans. We were thrilled to have hosted a sold-out bout at the 23rd Street Armory. Many thanks to all of our volunteers, Cricket Hill Beer, Stockertown Beverage, Bonner's and the Armory staff for being such excellent folks to deal with. Get your tickets now for March 12th, back at the Armory. It'll no doubt sell out again just as quickly.
2011's just getting started. You wait and see. We are...Philly!
